Hi! I'm Carmen Spicer.

B.A. in Biology
B.A. in Literature/Writing
I could never decide which I liked more - science or the humanities. Then I realized they are not mutually exclusive. Now I aspire to create a career path that unites my passions for health, science, and communication.
I am broadly interested in brain-body communication. During my PhD studies and beyond, I aim to explore questions related to: the gut microbiome and the gut-brain axis, neurodegenerative diseases, the blood brain barrier, sleep & circadian rhythms, or some combination of these diverse fields.
To me, solving biological puzzles with the intention of helping people is the most rewarding and endlessly interesting pursuit. My ultimate ambition is to convey scientific discoveries to non-experts to enhance their impact on the world.
At heart, I am a writer. Copywriting and editing are natural practices for me. I have experience leading teams to produce media and live events. I am also a confident public speaker and have been appointed to teach, train, or mentor others in nearly every professional position I have held.
